Bush is coming
George Bush is coming to Jordan.
I heard it from my friend back home before I heard it in the newsroom. In fact I think I was the one to break the news to most of my colleagues. Here's the story.
I can see the mass pandamonuim now.
Is it odd to anyone that his trip was announced so far ahead of time? Aren't his trips to the Middle East usually done last minute and as a suprise to, you know, discourage those who like to plan bad things?

Well Jordan is a safe place. Yes some incidents may happen like the shooting in the Amphitheatre, but it's an individual act, technically speaking it's similiar to the Dawson college shooting in Montreal. Otherwise they wouldn't be announcing it, this means the Americans have great trust in Jordan's security.

I see that you are still referring to Jordan as "the Middle East", it's like when someone asks me: #So how things are going in Afghanistan? *How am I supposed to know? #You come from the Middle East, you should know what's going in the region and your neighbors.
So you've been in Jordan for a while yet you don't feel that secure?
Maybe you are seeing things differently, and we have missed or chosen to turn a blind eye on.
Anyways he's in town to meet the Iraqi Prime Minister because Bush can't come near Baghdad, you know the city he freed to lead the "region" into democracy, freedom, prosperity and all that Bushism BS
Hi Firas,
I'm not saying Jordan isn't safe for average people like you and me. But for Bush? For a guy so many people in this region despise? Maybe not necessarily Jordanians, but others - who given enough time may try to make their way into the country for his special visit?
I personally feel very safe here. But then again I'm not hated by millions of people - many of whom live in this region, collectively known as the Middle East.
And my reference to the Middle East was just that - a reference to the region, not just this country. It's just like referring to the mass of land Canada, the U.S. and Mexico share as North America. Here, unfortunately, there are many countries where it would be unsafe for him to travel and when he or his White House representatives visit, they do so at the last minute and under very tight security to lessen the chance of anyone planning any attacks.
Nothing will happen here next week. The security will be well enforced and if there are any protesters, I'm sure they will behave themselves.
Hi Grace,
I realize that you were referring to Bush's visit and terrorists preparing for some attack rather for average people living in Jordan, I was not referring to how much you personally safe. It looks like the Americans trust Jordan's security forces that they've announced it ahead of time, so they might not even announce it if he's visiting other countries in the ME but not in Jordan, I mean despite of what you've said; the guy is hated by many and things get worse when neighbouring countries are troubled and lawless, they still think it's safe for Bush.
Protesters? I'm not sure about that! People are still afraid to speak up, or express their views. Ever wondered why most of the G8 summits have been held lately in the region including Jordan? Because there are no protesters!
Anyways Grace yeah I've reread my comment ,it gives the impression as if I didn't like what you wrote and I was angry and stuff (this is what happens when you write something at 2am after a rough day with cabbies). On the contrary, I meant that they might be too trusting and you are seeing something everybody have failed to noticed. Sorry about that.
If you got to cover his visit, please send his holiness my regards, and if he ever start babbling about Iraq the model , please tell him to put a cork in it, or you'll have an Ammani Cabbie take him for a ride.
PS: Can you please ask him to put WORD VERIFICATION on the axis of evil list? THis is the third trial
:)
So I'm not the only one who has rough days with cabbies? Glad I'm not alone!
Oh yeah?
I had a series called : Cabbies Watch on my blog, it's in Arabic though

I had to stop after my brother begged me to avoid arguing with them.
Yesterday a verbal fight broke in between the driver and the guy next to him, I was in the cab (the driver apparaently decided to car pooling without asking the guy, who wasn't happy and a fight broke between them, I was scared because the drivers hands were actually on the guy's shirt, and I was in the back seat trying to settle them down). Thank God no fest fight started, but I was scared to death.
Jordanian cabbies stink!
Grace, is your new photo in honor of Mr. Bush's visit? :) Very nice!
