An endearing ignorance

I’ve been keeping a mental list of some of the interesting questions I’ve received from people in discussions about my trip. I thought I’d share them for the sake of amusement:

Are there hair salons there?
Will you see camels?
Do you have to wear a head covering?
Can you date men?
Are you allowed to walk places alone?
Do they have milk?
Is there air conditioning?
Is this city in the desert?
Is it like Lawrence of Arabia?

Some of these questions remind me of the comments Canadians get while abroad regarding polar bears and igloos. Isn't it odd how little we know about our world neighbours? No insult meant, of course. I believe ignorance can be endearing, as long as it’s coupled with the desire to learn the truth.
